to Simplify Your
Military Move
Make multiple copies of your PCS orders. Everyone wants a copy!
Create a PCS binder to keep essential documents organized—orders, receipts, housing info, passports, medical records, insurance, travel reservations, pet records, and other important paperwork—so everything you need is easily accessible.
Update or renew important documents like your military ID, license,
get copies of the kids’ AND pets’ shot records.Declutter by joining a local buy/sell/trade group to sell or donate items you don’t want to move. Military groups are also great for finding free boxes and moving supplies.
Join Facebook groups pertaining to your new installation. Ask for advice, recommendations and general information to familiarize yourself of the area. Do your homework!

Financial Lingo
Dislocation allowance (DLA):
Provided to partially reimburse the service member for expenses incurred during
the move. You can apply to receive part of this payment prior to move.
Mileage allowance:
The government will reimburse the service member for using their private vehicle
to PCS. Reimbursement is based on a rate per mile formula instead of actual cost.
Keep your receipts!
Per Diem Allowance:
This allowance is provided to pay for the meals and lodging of the service member
and dependents during the PCS. Again – keep your receipts just in case!
Temporary Lodging Expense (TLE):
This allowance is to offset the cost of lodging and meals for the service member and
dependents when lodging is needed prior to leaving old duty station or after arriving
to new duty station. Again, keep receipts!
